Jesuit vs. Sainte-Croix, 7:15 p.m. Friday in Gormley: The Jesuits’ defense could be a force after allowing just one touchdown in four quarters of regulation time last week against Brother Martin. Holy Cross, which is handling a new options-based attack, is looking to bounce back from a loss last week to Shaw.

Edna Karr at St. James, 7 p.m. Friday: Karr opened the season with wins over John Curtis and Scotlandville. Next up is St. James, one season away from winning a Class 3A State Championship in 2019. Both schools have playmakers hired or targeted by LSU.

Pearl River at Newman, 7 p.m. Friday: Newman hasn’t given much to defense with two wins this season. Pearl River running back Brian Jenkins racked up nearly 900 rushing yards in the Rebels’ 3-0 start.

Mandeville vs Slidell, 7 p.m. Friday at Lakeshore: Both teams are 0-1 in District 6-5A after Mandeville’s loss to Northshore and Slidell to St. Paul’s. Mandeville is 1-2 after winning against Dunham to start the season. Slidell lost to Lakeshore and Rummel to start the season.

East Jefferson vs Bonnabel, 7 p.m. Friday at Yenni: This Jefferson Ward rivalry game was not played last season due to the pandemic. The teams enter this game after each throwing a pair of shutouts against Riverdale and Higgins, respectively, each in their storm-delayed debut this season.

Carver vs LB Landry, 7 p.m. Friday at Behrman: Can Carver open the season with a third straight shutout? The Rams face an LB Landry team who allowed 41 points in a loss to St. James in Game 1, then defeated Booker T. Washington 13-0 in the second.

John Ehret at Chalmette, 7 p.m. Friday: Chalmette generally keeps the scoring tight against John Ehret, losing by one point in 2019 and two points in 2017. John Ehret has not lost to a current school in District 8-5A since his 0-9 in 2012. Ehret has beat West Jefferson 43-27 last week.

Hahnville to East St. John, 7 p.m. Friday: Hahnville opened the season last week and lost by five touchdowns to Destrehan. Meanwhile, East St. John lost their first game by one point to Thibodaux. Both schools should see this as a chance to show how good each really can be.

De La Salle at Scotlandville, 7 p.m. Friday: An improved rushed offense helped De La Salle win last week against defending Class 3A semifinalist Lake Charles College Prep. Scotlandville, at 1-2, has lost the last two games to Warren Easton and Edna Karr.

St. Augustine vs Brother Martin, 2 p.m. Saturday at Gormley: Brother Martin won two low-scoring games to start the season, going into overtime last week against Jesuit in a tie at 7-7. St. Augustine allowed 87 points in a loss pair to Zachary and John Curtis.

Shaw vs. Rummel, 7 p.m. Saturday at Yenni: Shaw beat Holy Cross last week for his first Catholic League victory since 2015. Rummel, with sophomores and freshmen in the starting lineup, will do his best to prevent the visiting Eagles from holding a 2-0 record in the league. The Raiders, at 2-0, won last week over reigning Division IV state champion Calvary Baptist.
