5 High School Football Games to Watch on the Alabama Coast in Week 8
Here are five games to watch in the Mobile region in week 8 along with the full schedule.

RIVES DU GULFE (4-2) IN SARALAND (5-2)
Time / place: Friday 7 p.m., Spartan Stadium, Saraland
Last week: Gulf Shores defeated Citronelle 44-7; Saraland then beat No. 1 Spanish Fort 28-16

The lean: Gulf Shores won their first two games against Saraland in 2010 and 2011, but haven’t won since. The Spartans have an eight-game winning streak in the rivalry. … Saraland head coach Jeff Kelly is aiming for the No. 100 victory in 11 years at school. It is 99-33 coming into the game. … The Dolphins have won back-to-back games to stay in contention for a Class 6A playoff spot. Sophomore RB Ronnie Royal III ran for 98 yards and 4 touchdowns in last week’s victory at Citronelle. He now has 730 yards and 11 touchdowns on 125 carries this season. Freshman Landon Jones and senior transfer split time from Kaden Pierce to QB. They combined to go 6 of 12 for 33 yards. Keeshon Siaosi ran for 88 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. … The Spartans have won five straight wins since the start of the season 0-2 against two of the top Class 7A teams at Theodore and Hewitt-Trussville. Gabe Reynolds completed 16 of 27 passes for 192 yards in the Spanish Fort knockdown last week. West Virginia commit Jarel Williams caught 11 of those 16 completed passes for 157 yards and a pair of scores. TCU pledges Trevon McAlpine continues to anchor the defense.
FAITH ACADEMY (3-3) AT VIGOR (6-0)

Last week: Faith Academy lost to UMS-Wright 34-26; Vigor defeated Escambia County 46-0

The lean: Faith has won the last two meetings with Vigor decisively, 35-8 in 2019 and 41-7 a year ago. Before that, Wolves had won 10 of the previous 11 meetings. … Faith’s three losses (against Andalusia, St. Paul’s and UMS-Wright) totaled 12 points. The Rams had a 20-0 first-half lead over UMS last week before seeing them slip away in the final two quarters. Florida engagement Shemar James scored at 2 and 16 yards and Michael Inge returned a failed 40-yard kickoff for another score to allow the Rams to score three points with 8:08 left in the second quarter. . QB Colton Wood was 13 of 17 for 161 yards. … Vigor has beaten his opponents 214-60 this season. In the Escambia County Wolves’ road shutout last week, Anthony Mix Jr. completed half of his eight passes for 55 yards and a pair of scores – 17 yards for Abraham Daniels and 27 yards for Brennan Maye – Jordan. Jacori Barnes led the rushing game with 50 yards on five carries. In defense, Michael Towner had a 22-yard interception return for a touchdown, Kristopher Agee had an 80-yard interception return and Maye-Jordan had a 52-yard fumble return.
FAIRHOPE (5-1) AT THEODORE (6-0)

Last week: Fairhope defeated Mary G. Montgomery 45-6; Theodore defeats Davidson 36-3

The lean: Fight for the top spot in the region. … Fairhope has won five straight games since opening the season with a loss to Spanish Fort in Class 6A. Theodore has won each of his games by at least two touchdowns except for a 36-31 victory at Baker in Week 2.… Last week, Fairhope outscored MGM 31-0 in the first half and rushed to victory. Caden Creel threw a pair of touchdown passes and Payton Nero, Glenn Patrick and Qualin McCants all scored on the ground. Blayne Myrick leads the defense with 23 solo tackles, 9 assists and 3 assists. … In Theodore’s victory last week, Kierstan Rogers ran for 197 yards and 5 touchdowns. Rogers racked up 786 yards and 11 touchdowns on 118 carries this season. He has 80 yards less than 3000 for his career. QB Tametrius Pogue completed 61.5% of his passes for 807 yards and 8 touchdowns. He was only intercepted once. Ryheem Quinney has 3 TD receptions. … Tim Carter is 42-28 in his seventh season at Fairhope and 140-81 in 20 years overall as a head coach. Eric Collier is 54-38 in his ninth year with Theodore and 64-68 in 13 years in total.
ST. LUC (4-2) TO LEROY (5-1)

Last week: St. Luke’s defeated Greene County 31-0; Leroy defeated JU Blacksher 47-21

The lean: Leroy leads the overall series 4-1, including a 42-22 victory last season. … The Wildcats have won four of their last five games this season. The only loss was a 15-7 loss to Clarke County, Class 2A, No.1 on September 17. Last week against Greene County, Brandon Cooks had 2 touchdowns and ran for another. The Cooks finished with 96 rushing yards on 12 carries. Davious Simmons ran for 62 yards and a touchdown on 5 carries. … Leroy’s only loss came at Sweet Water (41-26) Class 1A on September 24th. The Bears have scored 40 or more points in three of their four field wins. (They started the season with a forfeit victory over Southern Choctaw). The Leroy offensive is led by QB Logan Sellers, WR Grayson Roe and RB Titus Parnell. Braeden Collins anchors the defense from his MLB job. DT Bryston Dixon, DE Malcolm Pugh, SS Titus Parnell and OLB Shamar Harris have all been high impact players in defense.
ST. MICHAEL (5-1) AT MOBILE CHRISTIAN (2-4)

The lean: St. Michael’s five wins this season under coach Philip Rivers are his total from the previous four seasons combined. … The Cardinals are averaging 40.8 points per game in their wins. Sophomore QB Josh Murphy is 80 of 142 for 1,193 yards and 15 touchdowns. He has been intercepted seven times. Ezra Sexton has run for 365 yards and 8 touchdowns on 78 carries and has six receptions for 71 yards. Junior Micah Farrell has 17 receptions for 362 yards and 5 TDs and William Ford has 29 receptions for 288 yards and 3 TDs. Junior Calvin Caron has 3 TD receptions. … Mobile Christian is 2-2 against the Alabama teams and 0-2 against the Florida teams. The Leopards lost to Mosely, Fla. (49-0) two weeks ago before the heartbreaking loss to Pensacola Catholic last week. William Locklear of Pensacola Catholic kicked a basket for 42 yards on the last play of the game. Mobile Christian edged Pensacola Catholic 331-203, while quarterback Patrick Sullivan completed 16 of 26 passes for 215 yards. Jordan Woullard led the Leopards’ rushing offense with 74 yards on 16 carries, and Aaron Rogers caught four passes for 80 yards.
