Eight in ten young people think gardening is cool, and it turns out that more than half prefer a garden center rather than a nightclub.
A poll of 2,000 people found that horticulture experienced a renaissance among 18- to 34-year-olds during the lockdown.
The appeal seems to be rooted in the desire of young people to make their homes and gardens a nicer place, improve their mental health, and create a space where they can escape.
Gardening is also found to be so popular that young adults spend almost two hours in a typical week caring for their beloved plants.
Kev Smith, Marketing Manager at Draper Tools, who commissioned the survey, said: “The popularity among young adults is fantastic to see, we knew she was popular, but even we were surprised by the outpouring. love for her.
“We tend to think of gardening as an activity for seniors, but this survey proves that gardening really is for everyone, regardless of your age.
“Gardening is a very calming activity, as well as a rewarding activity – everyone can enjoy the benefits it brings. “
The survey found that the most popular houseplants among those surveyed are cacti, orchids and aloe vera, followed by basil, spider plants and peace lilies.
Outdoors, the most common are daffodils, roses, and lavender, as well as tulips, mint, and hydrangea.
While the act of gardening itself is one of the biggest draws, it seems to be more important than that.
Two-thirds (66%) also said they enjoy buying gardening items, whether they are plants, seeds or tools.
To date, Britons surveyed have spent £ 318.56 ($ 452) on such items, of which 58% revealed they spent more on gardening in the past 12 months than ever before.

In fact, 56% said gardening was one of the things that helped them keep going in the wake of the pandemic.
But that doesn’t mean their interest is likely to wilt like an unloved plant: 72% intend to continue investing in plants, tools, equipment and more to realize their vision for their garden.
Carried out via OnePoll, the study also found that 60% would like to have access to more outdoor space than they currently do, so that they can have even more green fingers.
However, 78% believe that you don’t need a large outdoor space to reap the benefits of gardening.

The most popular place to grow plants is on the kitchen windowsill, while living rooms, bathrooms, and balconies are also popular spots for anything green.
Kev Smith added, “Gardening is incredibly accessible, which may partly explain its growing popularity.
