Alligators at the Games: 31 alligators on the Olympic lists

GAINESVILLE, Fla .– After another year of waiting, 31 alligators are ready to compete at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

The 31 Gators is the third largest for a Gator Summer Olympic contingency. There were 35 Gators at the 2008 Games in Beijing and London in 2012. UF also had 31 representatives in 2016.

Additionally, there are three American coaching staff with ties to Gator:
Current Gator Head Coaches:
Michael Holloway: United States Men’s Track and Field Coach
Anthony Nesty: Assistant Men’s Swimming Coach of the United States

Former Gator Head Coach:

Gregg Troy: United States Men’s Swimming Assistant Coach

Two former Gator Olympic medalists will help NBC coverage:
Elizabeth Beisel (swimming)
Bridget Sloan (gymnastics)

Competition calendar:

By the time of Friday’s opening ceremonies, five Gators will have competed in at least one 2020 Olympic event.

A trio of former Gator students – Michelle Moultrie, Aubree Munro, Kelsey stewart – start the Olympic action with a pair of softball games:
Tuesday, July 20 at 11 p.m. ET vs Italy NBCSN
Wednesday, July 21 at 8 p.m. ET c. Canada NBCSN

Canada’s soccer roster features two Gators – Adriana leon and Deanne Rose.
Wednesday, July 21 at 6:30 a.m. ET vs. Japan NBCSN

The swimming action begins on July 24.

SEC network broadcasts a program Thursday, July 22 at 7 p.m. ET dedicated the League’s 214 representatives to the Tokyo 2020 Games. The Florida 31s run all SEC programs.

Gators 2020 Summer Olympics Schedule

Tokyo Florida List Review:

  • 31 qualified alligators participate in the 2020 Olympics Gator 2020 Olympic List
  • Alligators have representatives from the 2020 Olympics in eight (8) different sports: Baseball, basketball, golf, gymnastics, soccer, softball, swimming and track and field
  • Alligators represent 15 different countries in Tokyo: Australia (1), Bahamas (1), Canada (2), France (1), Germany (1), Jamaica (1), Japan (1), Jordan (1), Liberia (1), Puerto Rico (2 ), Serbia (1), United States (15), US Virgin Islands (1), Uruguay (1) and Venezuela (1).
  • Alligators will compete in Softball for the first time. Alligators have participated in the following Olympic sports since 1972: baseball, basketball, beach volleyball, bobsleigh, diving, golf, gymnastics, judo, football, swimming, team handball, tennis, track and field and indoor volleyball.

  • 180 different alligators participated in the Olympic Games, combining for 292 Olympic appearances
  • Alligators won 126 Olympic medals (60 gold, 33 silver, 33 bronze)
  • 59 different alligators won an Olympic medal
  • Alligators won the Olympics medals in 9 different sports (Baseball, Basketball, Bobsleigh, Gymnastics, Football, Swimming, Tennis, Athletics and Indoor Volleyball)
