Baltimore County Police Identify ‘Woodlawn Jane Doe’ In Cold Decade Case – CBS Baltimore


WOODLAWN, Maryland (WJZ) – Baltimore County Police were able to identify the body of a woman found in Woodlawn in the 1970s.

There were few details about the woman who became known as “Woodlawn Jane Doe”. in 1975, a young woman went missing from her home in Virginia.

Her body was eventually found near a graveyard in Woodlawn and no one has been able to identify her so far.

“It was ultimately genetic genealogy that was able to give it its name back,” said Teresa Vreeland.

Bode Technology’s genetic genealogists worked with Baltimore County Police and together were able to identify the missing teenager as Margaret Fetterolf.

“So we were able to use the DNA from his remains which were recovered and searched the genealogical databases to create family trees and ultimately identify him,” Vreeland said.

Teresa Vreeland is the Director of Forensic Genealogy. She says that in the database they were able to find Margaret’s distant relatives and passed the information on to the police.

“So at the moment we’re like I said, we’ve been in touch with the family to try to find out more about who she was,” Carter said.

Donna Carter is with the Homicide and Missing Persons Unit and says she is the oldest unidentified murder victim in the county.

“We have excellent investigators who do not drop these cases. So they’re still worked out, ”Carter said.

And now, knowing her name, Carter says they can try to establish a timeline from the day Margaret went missing.

Police hope that with this new information, she can finally solve this case that she wants to hear from former classmates, friends or anyone who can recognize Margaret in her picture to call them.
