Baytown Genealogical Research Center Needs Your Support | Local

Sadly, the Baytown Genealogy Society’s research library was destroyed a year ago when a speeding youngster missed the turn and drove through the company’s research center, destroying computers, record players and other materials.

The building, which was rented by the Company, had to be demolished. The remaining collection of 3,000 to 4,000 reference documents and books is currently in stock until BGS can find a new location for the genealogical research library.

The Baytown Genealogy Society, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) organization, incorporated in 1996. All donations, regardless of amount, are gratefully accepted and are tax deductible to the extent of the law.

This would be a perfect occasion for a major donor or philanthropist wishing to leave a living tribute to a loved one. BGS may be able to withstand the loads of the storage unit for approximately one year.

In the event of failure to find a suitable facility or donors, BGS would be forced to forgo the large collection at Baytown. This will not only be a loss for the Society, but also for Baytown, as many visitors and out of town people have relied on our organization to help them in their ancestry.

BGS will continue to have meetings and guest speakers, but will no longer be able to help people with practical reference materials.

You can contact James Winston, President, for any questions or donations at [email protected]. Donations can also be sent to BGS, PO Box 2486, Baytown, TX 77522.
