The 2021 Minneapolis Winter Classic between the St. Louis Blues and the Minnesota Wild has been officially postponed to January 1, 2022, NHL announced Monday, confirming Athleticism report in October.

The league also announced that the 2022 NHL All-Star Weekend will be in Las Vegas on a date yet to be determined and that the Nashville Predators will welcome the Tampa Bay Lightning for an outdoor game on February 26 at Nissan Stadium – home of the Tennessee NFL Titans – as part of the Stadium Series.

A source said the Carolina Hurricanes, whose 2021 Stadium Series game in Raleigh, North Carolina, was postponed to December, have postponed their outdoor game to the 2022-23 season.

The NHL is considering a later start time for the Winter Classic in inclement weather or sunshine, sources said. The January 1 high average in Minneapolis is 24 degrees and the low average is 8 degrees. Ticket information will come at a later date.

The outdoor game at Target Field has been postponed from January 1, 2021 due to uncertainty over the NHL’s schedule and when fans might be allowed to attend the games. The NHL regular season didn’t start until January 13, and the only outdoor games played in 2021 were in Lake Tahoe, Nevada with no fans.

The Blues-Wild game will be the NHL’s first away game with fans since February 2020 and the second in Minneapolis (Blackhawks-Wild in 2016). It will also be the first Winter Classic broadcast on TNT.
