Epic Games Store Performs Better Next Week

The Epic Games Store takes a step forward to compete more with more established PC game stores like Steam next week with a suitable achievement system (called, of course, “Epic Achievements”).

For starters, Epic Achievements will only be available on a few games, including Rocket league, Underworld, pillars of Eternity, Kena, Zombie army 4, and Alan Wake remastered. Achievements will be divided into four levels: Bronze (which rewards 5-45 XP), Silver (50-95 XP), Gold (100-200 XP) and Platinum (which is awarded by reaching 1000 XP in a game and rewards players with 250 additional XP on their profiles).

Games updated to support Epic Achievements will now display those Achievements on the in-game page in the store, in addition to player libraries, where they can track their progress and see how far they have progressed towards a particular challenge .

At the present time, accumulating experience points to do everything, however, beyond giving players a sense of pride and accomplishment; Epic promises that it will add “new social features and rewards for gamers” focused on achievements later this year, however.

The Epic Games Store has technically proposed achievements for over a year when it began testing what the company called “a first release of the feature,” but the launch coming next week promises a more complete system that will span games, allowing gamers to gain platform-level experience, similar to Xbox Gamerscore.

Legacy achievements already in games will remain as “developer achievements” which exist solely at the discretion of the developer, although developers have the option of converting existing developer achievements to epic achievements if they wish (which will also maintain player progress).
