Game Wire # 82: Oakland A vs. Texas Rangers

0

Welcome to the second half of the 2021 Oakland A season! The All-Star break isn’t for a few more weeks, but mathematically speaking, we’re 81 games in the 162-game schedule. Wednesday brings Game # 82, putting us past the 50% mark.

The A’s have been losing momentum lately, but they are still in a strong position at 47-34. It’s second in their division by 1.5 games and tied for first place with the Wild Cards, just 2.5 off the best record in the entire American League. We know they could be even higher, but it’s not bad.

Better yet, it is Chris Bassitt Day, as the ace of the spin takes his turn on the hill. He faced the Texas Rangers last time around and chewed up seven one-run innings, and now he’ll have another chance against the same opponent. In the Oakland lineup, new call Frank Schwindel gets his first start in the uniform of an A, as a DH. Click here for more on Schwindel, who last played in the majors in 2019 for the Royals.
