Coastal Roots Farm – a non-profit Jewish community farm and education center in Encinitas – is launching a series of gardening workshops, to teach the community about best practices and methods for growing organic produce at home. October 24: How to build a raised bed; learn how to easily build a raised bed, best irrigation practices, and soil types for a home garden. ⢠Oct. 31: Gardening for beginners; learn to read a seed packet, explore the differences between transplanting and direct seeding, the basics of seasonal planting, pests and diseases. ⢠November 14: Advanced gardening; understand which regeneration practices help to strengthen soil nutrients and fertility, discuss and explore diseases and pest problems. ⢠November 21: The how and why of compost; learn how to build a compost heap, what materials can and cannot be added, how to maintain your own compost, and more.
