LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – A Lexington woman made her Food Network debut.

She’s not a contestant on the show, but she’s an expert judge representing Kentucky in “Buddy vs. Duff.”

Alex Narramore is originally from eastern Kentucky but lives in Lexington. She is an artist of sugar flowers and cakes.

“You make a lovely, perfect cake base. You know you stack all your levels and do all your stuff, and then you take your flowers and make an arrangement,” Narramore said of his work.

She decided to study art but always had an eye for the beauty of flowers.

“My childhood home had a rose garden and that’s why I love roses,” Narramore said.

So to bake cakes and flowers in sugar, it takes time.

“I use all the flowers that I grow in the garden as living references to sculpt the sugar flowers,” she said. “Every blemish and shadow and shadow and highlight are custom-made for this flower.”

In his kitchen, his job is his hobby. Each cake is a work of art in its own right. Diapers, buttercream, and sugar flowers are all made from scratch. His creative pieces have earned him a place as an expert judge on the Food Network.

“We were totally interacting through the laptop and they were going on,” Narramore said. “The episodes would be like eight hours to film each.”

She could communicate in real time, remotely from her home in Lexington. She says it’s an honor to represent Kentucky.

“I would absolutely do it again,” she said.

Narramore says it’s a reminder for others to continue to follow their passions throughout.

“I think you just have to dream and hold on to that dream and never really let it go,” Narramore said.

Narramore debuted Sunday night at 9 p.m.
