The PC school board will meet

The Parkers Chapel School Board will meet at 9 a.m. today to tour the school facilities. Thereafter, the school board will meet in the administrative building at 11 am for the interns of the school board in school finance.

Troy Neely to speak at the Genealogical Society meeting

The Union County Genealogical Society is pleased to announce that the speaker for the August meeting will be Troy Neeley, who will present the topic Starting Your Ancestry Journey.

Neely is involved in the community through the Union County Genealogical Society and is an ancestry enthusiast who has researched the Neely and Wilson families in Arkansas. Neely’s family is here in Arkansas, but he also has two grown children and two grandchildren living in Texas.

Neely is the Director of Quality and Risk Management at CABUN Rural Health Services, Inc. and is in his fifth year at the health center.

The meeting is open to the public and will be held from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, August 8, in the lobby of the Barton Public Library at 200 E. 5th St. in El Dorado. The Society asks all participants to wear a mask, practice social distancing, and use the back entrance to the library, although the accessible main entrance is open as needed. No refreshments will be served during this meeting.

There will be a selection of books for sale from the Society’s inventory on local history, as well as various documents that may assist in genealogical research. The event will also be webcast on the Company’s Facebook page on August 8 starting at 2:15 p.m. and can be watched live or recorded at facebook.com/UnionCountyGenealogicalSociety.
