Max Scherzer to start Dodgers in Game 163 or Wild Card

There is still over a week to go into the season and it looks likely the Dodgers will play either a 163 game or the Wild Card game.

With 10 games to go, the Dodgers are trailing the Giants by two games in the NL West. If both teams end the season with the same record, the Giants will host the Dodgers in a game 163 to determine the division winner. The loser would host the Wild Card Game.

With a number of solid options for the Dodgers to start either game, manager Dave Roberts shared with reporters on Thursday who would take the mound to LA if either of those games were needed – and his answer is not at all a surprise.

Max Scherzer.

“There’s no doubt in my mind,” said Roberts when asked if Scherzer would be the starter. “I think he’s the best pitcher in baseball.”

Right now, Scherzer is clearly the best pitcher in the game. Since joining the Dodgers at the trade deadline, the future Hall-of-Famer has been virtually untouchable. LA has won every game he started, posting an incredible 0.78 ERA and 1.35 FIP.

There’s no one better pitcher in baseball, and he’s 100% the guy you want on the mound in the biggest game of the season.

If I had to guess, the Dodgers would likely have Scherzer’s pitch in a 163 game if needed, and then look to Walker Buehler in the Wild Card game if needed. If LA doesn’t win the division, charge Scherzer for that WC match.
