Purdue vs Illinois: game notes

Purdue Offense: – D-

Abyssal, to say the least. We saw that a few years ago when Rondale got injured. Coach Brohm doesn’t make big adjustments when his top player is out. Well, David Bell was out and the offense spat. Brohmfense were less than great outside of the 2nd to 4th quarter against UConn.

Now he faces an even tougher battle to launch this attack. AOC or Plummer? Will Bell be back? How long is King away? Payne Durham took a big hit, how long is he done? The running game continues to struggle behind a lackluster offensive line.

The only thing that kept that rating from being an F was the winning race that covered 90 yards in Q4, designed by AOC.

Purdue Defense – A

The defense has retooled and it has shown it. 3 Co-Dcs has worked well so far. Brohm being more involved also worked well. Right now, the defense is allowing just 14.3 points per game. Good for the 9th in the country.

Led by George Karlaftis and Jalen Graham, the hard-hitting defense puts pressure on the quarterback and also stops the run decently.

We will need another top performance next week as the offense will be broken again.

Purdue Special Teams – A

Fineran continues to impress and it looks like Ansell has locked down the boat job. Ansell averaged 45 yards per punt this weekend, in a game full of punters. Fineran passed both field goal attempts and his PAT.

The unit also did not allow big plays on special teams.

Coaching – B

This mainly goes to defense. They work their buttocks and it shows. A victory is a victory and it is never easy to win in B1G. Good job, coaches.
