JEFF LOWENFELS Associated Press

Many gardeners don’t start all their plants from seed. We buy “starters”, or seedlings – nursery grown plants to transplant into our gardens and containers.

These are mainly annuals and vegetables in plastic cell packages of four or six plants each. Many people also buy starters in individual containers.

I take special care when buying my spring tees. You can’t go back and start over in the middle of spring or summer, and you don’t want to be disappointed because you bought plants that didn’t work.

So here’s a routine you might want to follow to make sure you get good plants.

It starts with the nursery you go to. Before buying, look around.

Does the place seem to grow their own plants or buy from wholesalers? Nurseries that grow their own spring starts usually take good care of them. Wholesalers are often responsible for caring for their plants at the outlets they sell to, and so caring may not be as good on the retail side.

Make sure the plants have been properly watered. Each time a cell bundle dries out, the seedlings are shocked and take a long time to recover, if at all. You don’t want to see flats of withered plants. If there are a lot of half-dead plants sold for half price, or shelves of dry plants sitting in the scorching sun outside the store, it’s advice to buy elsewhere.

Then, before buying a cell pack, test the ground. (It’s okay, you have the right!) In addition to being damp, it should not be compacted, a sign of drying out. I even make sure it smells fresh.

I also check the drainage holes to get a gauge on the roots, so I know if I need to transplant the seedlings when I get home or even if they’ve become too rooty to buy.

None of this takes long because I know what a healthy plant looks like, and so do you. It is free from wind and sun damage. These take time to fix, and who wants to waste time growing?

Look for fungal or bacterial spots, and the plants should be free of insects and any pesticide smells (a bad sign indeed, on many levels).

When purchasing spring plants in cell packs, “healthy” means all plants in the pack. If one in a four-pack isn’t healthy, the others are surely not far behind. Plus, you get what you pay for.

I will leave a store if the plants are not labelled. I want to know the name of the variety, the color and the height of the plants. Labels help me get the same (or different) varieties next year, depending on this year’s results.

We always wonder whether to buy flowering plants. Some plants bloom all season, so it’s no problem if they’re already in bloom. Other plants, however, only bloom once and that’s it. You don’t want to buy a plant that collapses early in the season because it’s already ripe.

Personally, if there is a choice between buying plants that are already in flower and those that are not, I take those that do not have flowers. I’m the gardener and I’m supposed to produce the flowers for my gardens, not let the nursery do it on its benches.

Finally, remember that plants and impulse buying go together like the hand and the gardening glove. Always have a garden plan in mind when buying plants. It’s easy to make a simple drawing and list of plants. I keep mine on my cell phone. That way it’s always with me when I stop at the nursery.

Bed bugs, once associated with overcrowded and dirty homes, have become a more prevalent problem in recent years. They can be found anywhere – from public transport to beautiful hotels. Like most unwanted guests, they are notoriously difficult to eliminate.

These blood-sucking beasts live wherever humans live. Although they can feed on other mammals and birds, they prefer human blood. They are wingless, red to reddish brown, with a flat oval body just under 1/4 inch long. Although their size makes them easy to identify, they’re good for hiding if you’re not looking for them.

Usually, the first sign of a bed bug problem is the appearance of red, itchy bites a few hours after exposure. Sensitive individuals may develop severe dermatitis from these bites, resulting in a painful, itchy, and persistent rash.

Bedbugs can feed undetected because they usually attack at night when their host (you) is sleeping, and their saliva contains a natural anesthetic that prevents you from feeling their bites.

The Olympic torch may have just passed from Beijing to Paris, but Los Angeles is already aiming for 2028: Mayor Eric Garcetti on Monday signed a new executive directive to create a “Games Cabinet”, as part of preparations for the 2028 edition. Summer Olympics that will be hosted in the city.

The purpose of the specialist firm, created by Executive Directive 28, will help city departments, local businesses and stakeholders communicate and cooperate during preparations.

The announcement was made Monday morning, in front of a view of the Los Angeles skyline and the Olympic flame lit at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.

“Here at the Colosseum was a structure built with the ambition of hosting the Olympics, for the first time in Los Angeles,” Garcetti said. “In 1923, this place started not only making history, but also making history consistently. And in terms of Olympic history, it was 1932, for the 10th Olympiad, when we renamed 10th Street “Olympic Boulevard”, and that we brought people from all over the world to experience the Games in one of the most difficult times in our global history.”

Garcetti also recalled his own experience watching the closing ceremony of the 1982 Olympics, which also took place in Los Angeles at the Coliseum.

“I remember how it felt to be 13, that excitement of the world to be here in my backyard,” Garcetti said. “I look forward to feeling that excitement again in 2028, when this stadium becomes the first stadium to host not just two, which is already the record here, but three Olympic Games.”

Plans for the 2028 Olympics include support for local youth sports leagues and programs like Play LA, Garcetti said, generating positive effects for SoCal kids.

“That is the purpose of this executive directive which I am signing today,” Garcetti said, saying his and the Cabinet’s goal will be “…to create an Olympic legacy…that begins now and endures for a long time.” after the passing of the torch.”

Other Los Angeles officials have emphasized those goals.

“Hosting the Games in 2028 is going to be a monumental opportunity that will not only strengthen our city and power our communities, but also give Angelenos a voice,” said Curren Price, Los Angeles City Council member for District 9.

“With the action the mayor is taking today, the directive opens up an opportunity for our city to actively engage our community, in planning how big events like the Olympics can be fairer for all. residents,” Price said, by hiring local residents, supporting small businesses and taking other actions that promote local economic growth.

LA Department of Civil Rights Executive Director Capri Maddox also spoke about the positive effects of the Games for the city and officials’ desire to hear from those who will be most affected by the Games.

“Today we are announcing what the Olympics will do for Los Angeles,” Maddox said. “It’s not just for 2028, it’s going to start before 2028, and it will be with us for years to come, because history is watching us in so many ways.”

Also in attendance was LA28 President Casey Wasserman. Kathy Carter, a former footballer named CEO of the LA28 Olympics and Paralympics Organizing Committee, will report to Wasserman as she will lead the planning and execution of the 2028 Games.

“We are ready for the Games,” Wasserman said. “LA is ready to host the Games, which means we can spend our time delivering on the promise of what the Olympic and Paralympic Games should do, and the impact they should have, on a city like Los Angeles. “

In the world of Western RPGs, Obsidian Entertainment is a name to know. This American video game developer was founded in June 2003, shortly before the closure of Black Isle Studios by former Black Isle employees. Although that name hasn’t been seen for a long time, Black Isle Studios is one of the original pioneers of the CRPG genre, being the developer behind the original two To fall Games, Planescape: Tormentthe Icewind Dale series, and the publisher of most Baldur’s Gate Games. Obsidian Entertainment continued this legacy, becoming known as the developer of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords and Fallout: New Vegasamong several other things.

GAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

After a long absence from the genre, Obsidian mounted a successful Kickstarter campaign to release pillars of eternity in 2015. Following other projects, Obsidian later released Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire. Shortly after, the studio is rid of its financial difficulties via a takeover by Microsoft. The first game released under the Microsoft banner was The Outer Worldsspiritual successor of Fallout: New Vegas. The company’s story currently ends with the early access release of Based, but this RPG powerhouse still has plenty of plans. Even though Obsidian’s name isn’t as relevant in modern times as Bethesda or BioWare, it still has some great Western RPGs and has several in the works right now.

Based

Grounded-Overlooking-Yard-1

Among Obsidian’s productions, Based is a special case. The company is no stranger to experimenting with other genres, but Based ditches the usual CRPG format in favor of a survival crafting game. Players take control of children who have been shrunk to the size of ants and must survive in an overgrown backyard. In addition to starvation and dehydration, players must also survive attacks from a wide variety of insects and arachnids. While the game was supposed to come out of early access in 2021, it’s still getting content updates from February 2022 with no end in sight. Always, Based has come a long way, so fans of the genre might want to check it out.

Declared

declared

Declared is both more indicative of Obsidian’s normal production and a clear marker of where the company is planning to go. Set in the same world as pillars of eternity, Declared will be Obsidian’s premier modern AAA first-person RPG. It seems like Declared is intended to assume the role of the company Skyrimwhile The Outer Worlds continue to serve as To fall equivalent. Very little about the game has been revealed, but even in CG’s reveal trailer, the similarities to Ancient Scrolls are obvious to see. It will be interesting to explore the pillars of eternity from a new angle once this open world action RPG is ready.

The Outer Worlds 2

The Outer Worlds 2 could use Unreal Engine 5

Two projects is a lot to undertake for a company that was once quite small, and there is a real possibility that a third project will be released before either. Surprising to many fans, The Outer Worlds 2 was revealed during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2021. Very little is known about the game other than the tagline “New Solar System, New Crew, Even Outer Worlds.” It’s expected to be similar to the first game, which should appeal to fans who aren’t likely to get the typical game. To fall Bethesda experience anytime soon.

Repentance

Obsidian Entertainment Project Codenames

The latest game Obsidian Entertainment is currently working on is just a rumor, but it seems plausible. In November 2021, a title titled Missouri Projectlater modified in Repentance, was disclosed. Supposedly, it will be an experimental little game set in 16th century Europe. It will be a murder mystery game that is not planned to have combat, similar to the modern classic CRPG Disco Elysee. This mysterious title would be directed by Josh Sawyer, the main designer of Fallout: New Vegas and pillars of eternity. It feels like a callback to the heyday of Obsidian, which its new AAA games are moving away from. This title has yet to be announced, but hopefully it’s both real and a triumphant return to the Obsidian of days long past.

Dahlias, calla lilies, sunflowers, carnations, zinnias and petunias, among others, look great in many gardens. Himalayan Honeysuckle (Leycesteria Formosa), a multi-caned deciduous shrub that grows 1-1.5 meters tall, is also in bloom at the moment. It grows easily in medium, moist, well-drained soil in partial shade, preferably afternoon shade. It blooms for quite a long time throughout summer and fall and is a valuable addition to the garden provided it is not allowed to spread in wet or damp forests or along streams. Growing plants from seed is a great way to cut your gardening budget. If you want to collect your own seeds, don’t cut off the dead flowers, but let the dead flowers form seeds that you can store over winter and scatter next spring. Easy-flowering annuals and perennials that grow from seed include aquilegia, California poppy, cosmos, delphinium, bunches, hellebores, honesty, Iceland poppy, larkspur, libertia, lupine, nasturtium, snapdragon, sunflower, sweet peas and late poppies. When the seeds are ripe, shake them into a paper bag. Do not collect the seeds on a rainy day or a dewy morning as the seeds should be completely dry. Store the seeds in their paper bag in a cool, dry place, and don’t forget to label it with the plant’s name to avoid confusion next spring. Plant annual seeds in pots and containers for transplanting in March. Try calendula, impatiens, lobelia, stock, marigold and alyssum. The roses will appreciate during this period a feed with an organic-based fertilizer, preferably boosted with potash. This promotes flowering but also helps to make the plants more resilient and resistant to heat and drought stress. It is important to only feed in cool weather and to make sure the plants are well watered before and after. Control powdery mildew on roses and also on crape myrtles with a fungicide such as wettable sulfur; be sure to apply in the cool of the morning. Cut wisteria canes, artichoke heads, lavender and helichrysums. Deadhead Buddleja, Geraniums and Crepe Myrtles. The first Armidale Garden Club meeting for 2022 will be at 6.30pm on Thursday 24th February. Meetings are held at the Uniting Church Youth Club Hall near Rusden St behind the Uniting Church on the fourth Thursday of each month. All are welcome – come! It is a pleasure to be part of the organization of the Tasmanian Masters Games, which will be held in the Mersey area from 20-23 October 2022. As sponsor, I would like to congratulate the dedicated members of the committee, the volunteers who work hard and supporting clubs who have already committed to providing venues and organizing competitions for the games. October may seem like a long time away, however, the benefit of January’s announcement is that it gives those athletes, backyard legends, or “sports curious” a chance to chat with their friends, organize teams and maybe start training to get those masters age muscles in shape and ready. Personally, I’ve always found that having an event or goal to accomplish has helped me focus on my health and fitness. Knowing there’s something on the schedule can be a great motivator and help get me off the couch. The Masters Games is not about playing for sheep stations – it is an inclusive, fun and positive experience and anyone over Masters age (sport specific) is welcome to participate. In fact, “participating” is probably the key word. I can attest to the fact that some people who never make it to the podium have wonderful and memorable experiences at Masters events, just like those who break records or win medals. Don’t be shy – get involved. There will be a myriad of sports, suitable for all levels of experience and talent and months to prepare, if that helps dampen some butterflies. I would also take this opportunity to appeal to club and association committees in the Mersey area and beyond to contact the chairman, Steve Martin (0418 614 781), or myself via the electoral office (03 6422 3000) if your group would like to host a Masters event/sport. The Steering Committee is keen to consider a wide range of sports and venues, and to include lesser known or “new” sports in the program. There is also room for sites to offer social activities and even sponsors to help promote and support the games. Not only will this provide a social opportunity and a chance to reunite with friends, but it will also provide economic return to the business and the wider community. What do you think? You can have your say by sending us a letter to the editor using the form below.

Winter is by far my favorite season of the year, as the temperature drops my excitement builds! Cool nights followed by a freezing morning, cozy naps in bed with blankets wrapped around me and cups of hot chocolate – it all sounds like heaven to me. As pleasant and beautiful as winter can be, it can also be harsh on our bodies and our lifestyles, if we don’t equip ourselves for it. So we’ve selected a bunch of super interesting and practical designs to help you get through this winter season… in style! From a coffee table that houses an electric fireplace to a super cute mug warmer that heats your drink and charges your smartphone – these innovative product designs are the ultimate winter essentials for you. They will turn this winter season into child’s play!

1. The AIRY Noori V02

Boasting an enameled steel construction, the Noori V02 AIRY is a multifunctional outdoor grill, pizza oven, rocket stove and fire pit – all in one! Not to mention this is probably one of the nicest grills I’ve seen in a long time, it will be the perfect visual accessory for your garden. The grid is made up of six internal refractory concrete plates. These plates + an AIRY cylinder constitute the innovative AIRY system of the grill (which also gives its name to the product). This basically means that to set up an open fire, you simply remove a few refractory plates from inside the AIRY cylinder, which instantly exposes the flames, creating the mesmerizing dance of flames we all love to watch in an open fire. ! Just like its predecessor, the Noori V02 AIRY also features a pizza disc, allowing you not only to bake pizza but also bread.

2. Hearth

Designer Max Burton has designed a coffee table aptly named “Hearth”. At first glance, it looks like a sleek but normal table with a black top and a sash base. Even in this dormant state, it already functions as a beautiful centerpiece for people to gather around, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Turn this table clockwise like a giant dial, and the angled fins at the base swing open, revealing the electric heater within. The twisting motion might remind some of a more advanced thermostat, and it offers almost the same capability. When opened, the fireplace draws in air from hidden ducts on its underside, then blows heated air through the fins, warming the entire room evenly in all directions.

3. Mujjo Touchscreen Gloves

Mujjo Leather Touch Gloves

Mujjo Leather Touch Gloves

Designed to match the aesthetic of Mujjo’s leather iPhone cases, the gloves sport a similar all-leather look with a fold-over closure marked with the brand’s familiar oblique line, created by Mujjo co-founder Remy Nagelmaeker . The gloves sport a design that’s an instant classic, thanks to its use of full-grain Ethiopian lamb leather with a uniform bold black aesthetic. The snap closure around the wrist keeps the gloves stylishly on your hands, creating a snug fit while keeping cold air out so your hands stay warm at all times. A layer of cashmere helps keep your extremities warm while providing an unrivaled level of comfort, although the highlight is the nanotechnology-infused leather that works almost like a second skin, allowing you to use your phone as you would normally… with any part of your hand.

4. The Breez Desk Hand Warmer

If you’ve ever tried to text in the cold, you know that your fingers tend to get stuck in low temperatures…so imagine trying to type on a keyboard in the cold. Whether you’re working or playing, the Breez desktop hand warmer keeps your fingers toasty warm as you press keys on your USB or wireless keyboard. The horizontal radiator design evenly warms your hands as you type, covering the entire keyboard so there’s never a cold spot near the number pad.

5.005G

005G is a neck warmer designed by Xiaoming for cold winter mornings when hitting the snooze button is too tempting. Over the seasons, our bodily needs also change. With winter fast approaching, the cold, dry air has us shopping for winter accessories like weighted blankets, moisturizers, and steam inhalers. Although the heater is fully on to keep out the chill, an extra blanket or a fluffy pair of socks still provide the right amount of comfort. Industrial designer Xiaoming brings comfort to this winter season with 005G, a neck warmer that drapes around your shoulders like a warm towel.

6. Quanta vici

With the ability to comfortably warm up to a wonderful 130°F, Quanta Vici’s gloves and socks help style any winter outfit perfectly, ensuring your extremities don’t end up feeling cold while that your body is hot. The garment is app-controlled, charges via USB-C, and has a battery life of between 6 and 50 hours. Additionally, the gloves feature capacitive touch sensitivity, so you can use your phone with the gloves on (obviously you won’t be able to use fingerprint unlock), while the socks have compression ribs, blister cushions, and arch support to keep them comfortable for long hours. The gloves and socks are also designed with a ventilation mesh, to promote breathability and comfort during prolonged wear, and are also designed to be non-slip.

7. Vollebak’s Indestructible Blower

Vollebak’s ‘Indestructible Puffer’ is exactly what the name suggests. And the puffer owes its indestructibility to the “strongest fiber known to man”, Dyneema. Dyneema is said to be 15 times stronger than steel. If you’re ever heading to the coldest place on earth, this jacket needs to be in your carry-on. The Indestructible Puffer can withstand temperatures as low as 140 degrees Fahrenheit. In fact, the cold only tickles the puffer. When the temperature drops, the jacket goes into Hulk mode, gaining strength as it gets colder.

8. J Dadaism cup warmer

There is nothing that meets the pleasure of a hot coffee or tea while working. You get an extra kick to stay productive for a few more hours. However, there are times when you tend to forget and that hot drink is left to become a cold brew sitting on the table. That’s where a mug warmer like the one conceptualized by designer Dadaism J comes in. The functionality of this mug warmer is to keep your compatible mug heated from below to ensure the drink inside stays warm. a particular temperature. This ensures that you don’t have to sip a cold brew when your cup should have had a very hot beverage.

9. The Delivery Jacket

With these winter months getting colder and more treacherous, keeping short-haired dogs and puppies warm is a top priority for dog owners. In fact, 40% of US-based dog owners have purchased clothing for their dog. If you’re looking to upgrade your pup’s wardrobe for the New Year, Between Two Naps’ collection of dog jackets has other fun options, like pillow-topped headpieces and plush racing helmets on the puppies theme. The delivery jacket, however, is their upcycled option, which is one of a kind, with a cropped body and elasticated underside. Their design features classic packaging tags embedded into the fabric of the jacket that include random words such as “sleep,” which help store owners track outgoing shipments.

10. The Flood

The flo is a portable desk fan by nature. The front of the fan is actually covered – no more hurting your finger from occasionally pushing into the blades. The fan can be adjusted using a temperature dial on the back of the flo, allowing you to easily switch between heating and cooling functionality. One of the best features of the design is the use of a filter, which cleans the air thrown at you, rather than having dust from your fan blades thrown at you. The fan also uses a simple USB-C cable to stay charged at all times. Flo’s aesthetic is simple, yet minimal, making it an easy piece to own and use over the years. And given its operation in all seasons, it reduces the storage space needed for the off seasons.

2. Cover’s Little House

Located in the Highland Park neighborhood of Los Angeles, the tiny backyard home was designed and built by Cover as a rental experience for Lazarus and his partner, Didi. Like most of Cover’s structures, the Highland Park Tiny House is a prefab project. Cover Architects oversaw every design and construction decision for the home, creating an idyllic semi-outdoor garden oasis for the LA sun. Featuring a pre-fabricated panel structure, the steel frame gives rise to the tiny backyard home and its many dynamic features.

3. Modpools

Dubbing them “the cardboard boxes of the world,” Rathnam felt inspired to build the pools as a way to give discarded shipping containers new purpose and backyard life. Shipping containers are purchased by Rathnam after goods have been shipped to North America from China, as otherwise they would simply be discarded and not reused for shipping purposes. Depending on your garden and its construction parameters, Modpools can be customized to fit.

4. I am sauna

Iam Sauna is a charming tent-style sauna equipped with a wood-burning stove that allows people to enjoy the outdoors even in cold weather to regain lost energy after a long day. A Japanese-style sauna tent is extremely portable; you can take it with you whether you are cycling or driving for a picnic with your family. In addition to its portable design, the sauna tent is easy to set up. One person can set up the tent in less than a minute. It will be necessary to stretch the zippers on all four sides and instantly a stable and usable tent is ready.

5. Kitchen area

Although non-electric toaster and oven combos have hit their stride with the outdoors, the gas-powered Cook Nook has an added advantage with a stove. There’s so much to do with the non-electric toaster, stove and oven combo. It can be used to make toast, roast chicken, bake cakes and even prepare a meal when electricity is not a luxury. So when you step into the wilderness, a portable and lightweight gas toaster, oven, stove is the icing on the cake as it opens up possibilities for a great treat for a large family or friends reunited with the choice of pizzas, cookies, and other delicious.

6. Bungalow luggage

Packed in a sturdy four-wheeled travel cart-style case, you get a pair of chairs and a table with a foldable top. The foldable frame, seat and back form the chair, while the metal spokes lined up like hollow table legs become the base for a wooden plank table top. The chairs have a nice canvas seat and the table seems quite sturdy; together, the furniture outside your camp will become your closest confidant when it comes to comfort!

7. The BBQ&co Grill

EIKI DESIGN STUDIO, the refreshing barbecue design from a Kyoto-based product design studio, is an emerging image of this new lifestyle brought about by COVID-19 restrictions. The project’s lead designer, Seiki Ishii, closely analyzed the dynamics of city life without compromising on cooking mouth-watering rotisserie, churrasco steak or cooking market-fresh salmon sushi. This cross-cultural cooking space results in a sleek, compact barbecue that brings home the style of Spanish and Brazilian barbecues. One that is dominated by wood burning in the fireplace to create a constant fire for the most evenly cooked delicacies.

8.MYC

While searching for fireproof materials to build his grill, Singer found mycelium, a fireproof vegetative part of a mushroom that is safe and edible for humans. Mycelium has an array of properties that make it the ideal choice for building a disposable grill. Inexpensive and very easy to grow, mycelium is an accessible and durable alternative building material that is water-repellent, naturally insulating and fully biodegradable. After growing his own batch of mycelium, Singer built prototypes of MYC and envisioned the disposable grill lining the shelves of convenience stores and gas stations to provide the general public with the choice of durable disposable grills. Following the use of a MYC grill, instead of searching for the nearest trash can, grills can simply cut and leave MYC at the campsite to biodegrade and fertilize the earth.

9. The Zome Construction Kit

No need to be an architect to want to build your own bamboo structure thanks to the ‘Zome building kit’ from Giant Grass! The studio has created a DIY kit that’s essentially a larger-than-life LEGO project that can live in your backyard or be expanded to create a community space. The “zome” is a flexible space that can be used by children to relax in the garden, such as a gazebo to entertain guests, a greenhouse for seedlings, a creative space in the office, a quiet space for yoga at home. House. , or a glamping tent – it can be anything you want. This DIY kit is perfect for those who want to live sustainability and enjoy working on projects that result in a productive reward.

10. Wooly eco-friendly cooler

Wool has a pretty good reputation as an insulating material, but you wouldn’t instantly think that wool is used to keep something cool. Sure, wool sweaters, mittens, socks, caps, they’re all used to retain your body heat and keep you warm, but with insulation, the reverse is also true! Check out the Wooly Eco-Friendly Cooler, an outdoor cooler that uses eco-friendly wool (as opposed to chemical insulators) to keep your cold drinks cool…and as a bonus, it comes with a lid that doubles as a charcuterie board so you can pair your wine with some charcuterie and some eclectic cheeses, or your beers with fries and dip and some cocktail nuts too!

People can’t wait to see the designs Arthur Brown creates on his lawn at the corner of Fifth and University streets in Alexandria. It’s a New Year’s tradition.

Even as he got his bike ready for the Alexandria Christmas Parade, people were asking him what he had planned.

They just had to wait and see.

“I’ve been doing this well for 25 years, so I’ve been doing it for a long time,” Brown said. “I just love doing that. It took me 15 hours to do so, so it’s taken me a long time this year.”

The investment varies. Last year it took him 9 hours.

Future :Alexandria Events Include Epiphany Service, Burning Greens

Brown creates his designs by planting ryegrass – a winter herb that usually stays until spring around November.

“I always put my date on,” he said of the “2-0-2-2” circled around.

As Brown walked through this year’s airing, he pointed out the other designs, such as an “S” snake, window pane, and a maze that someone might be able to walk through.

“I made horseshoe models,” he said. “You can see how it looks like a ‘U’ shape.”

One item was inspired by his mother.

"I'm doing it well at 25 so I've been doing it for a long time," Arthur Brown said of the lawn patterns he creates in his yard using a lawn trimmer. "I just like to do that. It took me 15 hours to do it so it took me a long time this year."

“Further down, I made it like a little railroad track, as you can see here. One of the reasons I put the railroad tracks here is because every time I go through a track railroad, my mom said, “Hey! Did you look both ways? ‘”Said Brown, smiling.” So I put that here to remember her. “

As he enjoys sports, he incorporated the letters “NBA” and “NFL” as well as soccer and basketball designs.

Take a trip:The labyrinth of the Rapides hospital offers “a place of meditation while walking”

But every year after he finishes, he starts planning the next year’s creations. He offers about 15 and reduces it to 10.

And Brown doesn’t search the Internet for ideas.

“It all comes from the brain,” he laughed, pointing to his head.

As far as Brown knows, he’s the only one doing lawn projects like his. He hopes that is not always the case and that more and more people give the medium a try.

“They still have time,” he said. “Because I’ve been doing it for a long time. I really would love to see someone else be able to cope with it.”

A rendering of Base Village Building 12, nicknamed ‘Aura’, seen from Wood Road, presented to Snowmass Village Town Council on December 6, 2021. 4240 Architects is leading the design of the building, which will feature 21 units with either four or five bedrooms each.

The Town Council of the Village of Snowmass gave the green light to a resolution approving the final architectural plans for Base Village Building 12 at a regular meeting on Dec. 6. The building, dubbed “Aura”, is slated for construction on Lot 7 along Assay Hill, just south of the Viceroy.

Aura’s 21 units will be among the largest in Base Village’s residential inventory: each unit has four or five bedrooms and averages approximately 2,655 square feet per unit.

That’s more than double the size and less than half the number compared to Electric Pass Lodge, which is currently under construction with 52 two- and three-bedroom open-market units averaging about 1,135 square feet. squares, plus a restricted act unit.

Aura’s unit size is more on par with the 10 stand-alone Havens at Fanny Hill homes also under construction, which each have three or four bedrooms plus a flex den and images of living space ranging from just under from 2,500 to over 3,300 square feet.

Like Electric Pass Lodge, Aura’s plans consider environmentally responsible practices as well as the relationship between residents and their environment.

The project will be largely electrically powered once built (although a few components like spa pool heating and snow melting still require natural gas), and the building will be a “mass timber” structure. which relies more on wood than on the most carbon. – concrete and steel-intensive, according to Ellen McCready, project manager for developer East West Partners.

“The building itself – excluding the thermal pool and snowmelt – should have a zero ongoing carbon footprint and I know there were articles a few weeks ago about to have similar goals and the race to zero (initiatives) and carbon reduction strategies, so I think we’re aligned there,” McCready said.

The housing mitigation for this project has already been completed off-site, so the developer is not required to build any new rent-limited or rent-limited units indoors when they inaugurate Aura, as requested. submitted to the city.

“It’s not that it doesn’t mitigate employee housing, it’s that housing has already been mitigated,” McCready said.

But as the lack of affordable housing for local employees reaches crisis levels, city officials have raised concerns about the long-term impact another luxury new building will have on concurrent housing shortages. and manpower.

“You guys, I’m sure, are as aware as anyone – I mean, employee housing in this village is getting harder and harder,” Mayor Bill Madsen said. “And as you said, a lot of that mitigation was done a long time ago. We find ourselves today in a difficult situation: what are we going to do to solve this problem? »

Andy Gunion, Roaring Fork Valley’s managing partner for East West, acknowledged that housing is a “community-wide issue” and noted that an existing housing mitigation matrix is part of the project acquisition so developers can anticipate mitigation and plan accordingly as they planned base village.

“In some ways, time hasn’t been in our favor, hasn’t it, because all of these mitigations were taken a long time ago,” Gunion said. “Now the projects under construction required this mitigation, but we cannot be penalized for this time discrepancy.”

“I realize that,” Madsen said, “but as a community, how are we going to address this? I mean, it’s the biggest development in our town, and we have to find a way to house the employees.

Gunion noted that phase two of the Viceroy development will have a “significant housing component” and that East West is evaluating “all strategies” for potential housing mitigation in the future.

“There’s nothing we’re looking at that’s a definite go-ahead, but it’s a priority for everyone,” Gunion said.
