BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – Operators of a faith-based non-profit organization dedicated to tackling food insecurity in Kern County are in shock after delivery truck they just bought is stolen .

Surveillance video shows this happened at around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday. A man walked through the door of the Morning Star Fresh Food Ministry warehouse near Kentucky Street and stole the Freightliner refrigerated truck recently purchased by the association.

The nonprofit was preparing to pack the $ 40,000 cash truck next week.

Since 2013, Morning Star has been collecting fresh produce from local producers and distributing them to families in need.

Bret Sill, founder of Morning Star Fresh Food Ministry, said the truck is vital to what they do.

“We don’t do anything other than fresh food. Meat from local butchers. Fresh products from local producers. So it is imperative that we keep it cool and in the refrigerator, from the time we collect it from the shipper until the time we bring it here and pack it.

Sill asks that if you’ve seen the truck, or know anything about the case, to call Bakersfield Police at 661-327-7111.
