“First and foremost, the library is a completely free community space,” says Callum Elliot-Archer of Exeter Library. “You can use us as a place to study for an exam, meet your friends during your lunch breaks, bring your children to play in our children’s library or find a quiet corner to read your favorite book.

“We have public access computers that people can use completely free of charge and access to printing. Our teen space recently launched and is the perfect place to hang out, browse our young adult books, or play a few Mario Kart games on our Nintendo Switch.

“We also have free resources available for those wanting to start their own business, including 1-1 experts and market research programs that would be worth thousands of pounds.

“Our events program runs year-round, which means you’re never far from a major event taking place within the library. We regularly host Bounce and Rhyme sessions for families with young children, story time, computer drop-off and job clubs.

Are you wondering about the ideal way to celebrate this Mother’s Day and surprise your mom? You can buy her favorite items at the market, take a family outing to make her feel special, or help her with simple things around the house that touch her soul. Here are ways to express your gratitude to the very special person who has always showered their love, care, and blessings. Spend time with her to make it a fulfilling Sunday.

A day together Put aside all other plans and treat your mom like the queen of the day. Turn the day into a full day adventure in a special place. Take the whole family to one of their favorite parks or lakes. Spending time together (preferably outdoors) is of real value so go on a picnic, hike or go to the garden together.

A makeover session accompanied by a photo session Make her sit down and give her a beautiful makeover at home. You can start by pampering her with a facial massage, then recreate one of her favorite makeup looks at home. This is also the perfect opportunity to do a photo shoot as an after-makeup activity. She will love it.

Give mom a vacation (day off) This might be the best gift of all. Get everyone involved and let the moms in your life sit back and relax. She deserves it. Ask the family to prepare dinner (choose something simple and prepackaged) and serve it to your mother on the special occasion.

Pamper her with an at-home spa session Mothers around the world dedicate their lives to making your everyday life easy and stress-free. They think little of themselves. On this day, you can create a home spa experience for your mom. All you need are essential oils and massage oils, a steam generator, dim lights and soothing music. You can give her a gentle massage and add to her comfort.

Cook her a delicious meal Your mum loves to cook for you every day and you can cook her a four-course meal at least today. She will definitely come and try to help you in the kitchen, but this time don’t listen to her and tell her to relax and wait for her delicious food to arrive. (ANI)

If you’re still in that pandemic mindset where the calendar doesn’t make sense and the months bleed into each other, I hate to break it to you, but this Sunday is Mother’s Day. Yes, many of Calgary’s top restaurants are hosting opulent brunches, and many smart catering companies and take-out operations are offering special food kits to pamper those who don’t want to go out yet, but if you haven’t taken provisions at that time, you probably missed the boat.

What can a mom’s child or spouse do without any reservations or special orders on the books? Luckily, there are last-minute options to make the moms in your life feel well-appreciated.

If there ever was a perfect solution for Mother’s Day, it’s the new And Some Flower Cafe, located in a charming brick building in Sunnyside. This cute little business is the brainchild of entrepreneur Raina Moon, whose family owns Moon Korean BBQ in Chinatown, giving her a solid restaurant background. Moon is also a trained florist who has long dreamed of owning a business that combines her two interests, flowers and food. The café connects the two beautifully, with a selection of fresh flowers and a florist station at the front of the room, a bustling coffee counter and around 30 seats for those looking to sit down for a casual meal or a coffee or tea. .

And Some is a cafe, not a full-service restaurant, which is lucky for last-minute Mother’s Day parties because it doesn’t take reservations. The food mostly falls into the light and sweet brunch category, with thick buttermilk waffles ($15) served with fruit and the option of chocolate ice cream as the centerpiece of the menu. The cafe also specializes in “croffles,” a croissant/waffle hybrid topped with everything from ham and egg ($11.95) to brown cheese and vanilla ice cream ($9.95) and to “cruffins,” a flaky croissant/muffin mix with toppings like strawberry or black sesame, plus other items like green tea tiramisu and homemade cakes.

Drinks here also have a nice twist, with standard hot and cold coffee drinks as well as flashier strawberry lattes and rose and lavender ades and organic green teas accented with flower-coated ice cubes. Everything is perfect for creating Instagram-style memories, which fit into Moon’s delicate floral theme.

“I care about the taste of food, of course,” Moon says. “But the design is also important. Because I’m a florist, how things look is important to me.

And Some Flower Cafe is located at 540 7th Ave. NW and is open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The florist is open daily from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. for custom bouquets, with pre-made bouquets available for purchase during cafe hours. For more information, visit theandsome.com.

Of course, a cafe can’t accommodate every last-minute Mother’s Day celebration, so that’s where the ingenuity will have to be. Many brunch-only restaurants will stick to their standard no-reservation operations on Sundays, but those who don’t want to wait, even if it’s via one of these handy virtual waiting lists, may want to arrange themselves something special. If you haven’t thought ahead to make a reservation for afternoon tea, crafting your own tea with items from a local bakery is a good bet and can be done without notice.

One place to stop is Ollia Macarons and Tea (810C 16th Ave. SW), which offers a special Mother’s Day gift box, but if they’re sold out, their delicious macaroons are available by the box and come in flavors. like Earl Grey, Lavender Lemon and Salted Caramel Dark Chocolate. Ollia also sells Mother’s Day tea cakes made with macaroon shell, lavender white chocolate ganache, lemon curd and Earl Gray whipped cream, as well as premium teas. If macarons aren’t enough, other bakeries nearby like the Black Sheep, Butter Block, Yann Haute Patisserie and La Boulangerie would be more than happy to help round out your selection of baked goodies. Ollia also offers macaron-making classes – an IOU for a future class makes a great gift for culinary-minded moms.

Or, for something tastier, River Cafe (25 Prince’s Island Park) relaunched its picnic basket program on May 1, with dishes ranging from red lentil hummus and BLT sandwiches to artisan cheeses and caviar. Drinks and other treats can be added, and children’s picnic items are also available. Baskets must be ordered at least one hour in advance and can be enjoyed at the house, in the grounds of Prince’s Island or in the restaurant’s outdoor picnic garden, with tables available on a first-come basis. first served. Each individual is different in nature, has different likes and dislikes, etc. However, most of our personality is shaped by our zodiac signs. Naturally, when it comes to dating, everyone has different ideologies. Some prefer a day at the beach as the ideal date type, and some like to stay home and enjoy a nice meal with their partner.

Considering how different zodiac signs dominate different personality traits, a detailed look at their characteristics can help you date your perfect one.

Read on for ideas to make your partner’s day a little more special.

Ram

The first star sign, Aries, is bold, passionate, and impulsive. The sign never gives up easily and is very competitive in nature. Therefore, to make sure they have a good time, schedule a date that involves games. The fiery spirit likes to win a fair game. Other than that, rock climbing is one of the many options that can bring out their energy. The fact that such an activity can be performed both outdoors and indoors, is very suitable for testing their physical strength and exciting them.

The list of ideas also adds a kart race. Nothing happens anymore for an Aries to be able to connect to their true self. Therefore, if your partner is an Aries, especially if they are very stressed, they can use such activities to reconnect with themselves.

Bull

Ruled by the planet Venus, classy Taurus likes the luxurious things in life. They are also known to be homebodies and prefer to stay at home. Therefore, it is best to consider comforting activities for them, something that can give them hours of adrenaline-filled adventures while staying at home is mostly their ideal date type. A day at a spa can pave the way to their heart. But that means the whole package, not just one service at a time. The romance for Taurus is simple: getting spoiled.

Taurus are very appreciative of people who treat them specially. But, they repeatedly fall in love with people who care about their comfort and make their personal space more relaxing. Enjoying a delicious home-cooked meal and a good movie with their partner can make them elated.

Gemini

Gemini is ruled by talkative Mercury, which makes them social, fun-loving, and charming. They need to be entertained and engaged to stay interested. Therefore, their ideal type of date will be something where they can put their active brains to good use. An escape room with their partner would turn them on the most. The excitement of solving each clue in the mystery will drive them forward.

Other than that, Geminis would enjoy trivial nights out at a bar or open-mic comedy shows, where they can feed their sense of humor.

Cancer

Cancer is another welcoming zodiac sign, they love to care for their loved ones and be nurtured in return. Being a water sign, they are also very comfortable around rivers, lakes, and the ocean. Organize them a casual and romantic date par excellence. Either have a date at home, clean up the space and decorate with some gold, plan a picnic on the beach, and walk around with your hands entwined. However, don’t forget to bring home cooked meals, as they will feel right at home and comfortable even outside. The sensitive and emotional sign will be moved by stress.

One more thing, like Taurus, Cancer sometimes prefers luxury. Therefore, wherever you plan to take them, don’t forget the wine.

Another great date idea for Cancer is tickets to an intimate concert with their favorite singer or artist.

Leo

Led by the sun, Leo likes to be the center of attention. Their ideal type of date is something that can put them in the spotlight. Therefore, taking them to a karaoke bar with plenty of drinks is perfect. Good at singing or not, Leos won’t be afraid to hold the mic. This will reveal their fun and goofy sense of humor. Make sure the camera is always on, take some great photos for their social media feed, this will surely make them feel like you understand their priority.

On top of that, take them to fancy parties, bowling or even the opera; because they could dress extravagantly for it.

Virgin

People of this zodiac sign like to learn something new. They’re pretty practical and grounded, but not for grand gestures of love. Therefore, an ideal type with Virgo should be something that will add to their knowledge. For example, take a trip to a vineyard, probably even spend a day or two there. Not only do the wineries have perfectly planned itineraries with a host of interesting activities, they are also informative.

Virgos enjoy discussing politics or any topic of their choosing while sipping wine and learning the difference between different varieties of grapes.

Cooking together is just another date idea, which will keep them interested in the relationship.

Balance

Intellectual Libras are very fond of art in all its forms. The air sign is also fashionable and likes to dress up for every occasion. Therefore, if there is an art gallery or museum in the city, take them there. Libras enjoy assigning stories and emotions to each artifact or work of art while expanding their knowledge.

Other than that, Libras have excellent taste which adds to their expertise. People of this sign will also love attending concerts, fashion shows and spontaneous shopping sprees.

Scorpio

The Scorpio water sign is very passionate and intense. They value intimacy as much as they enjoy intellectually stimulating conversations. Although they love the adrenaline rush, sometimes they prefer to spend some time with their partners. Therefore, a perfect date for this sign would be camping. Organize an open-air tent and lay down on the grass and look at the stars with their love. However, if you’re skeptical of going raw, glamping is a great alternative.

In addition to looking at the stars and making constellations, having deep conversations will make their hearts race.

Other than that, going to amusement parks and flirting by signing up for roller coaster rides with their partner are also enjoyable for Scorpios.

Sagittarius

Adventurous Sagittarius is a sign that needs excitement and exploration to feel alive. Therefore, mountaineering, trekking and practicing all adventure sports can bring them back to their true identity. Even though they are not a water sign, they are hugely fond of water sports. Therefore, go for rafting or try other games in this category.

Other than that, ziplining or bungee jumping with their partners will boost their adrenaline rush. Remember to bring snacks and alcohol with you. Sagittarius would also benefit from a long drive to a place that offers wildlife safaris or horseback riding.

Capricorn

Capricorn loves all the finer things in life, not so similar to Taurus but yet quite similar. They are also very practical, disciplined and hardworking. They not only work hard, but also play hard to get. Therefore, to make them feel special, get a reservation at a coveted fine dining restaurant. They are also a bit traditional, thanks to which they would enjoy a classic candlelit dinner with expensive wine and delicious food. They also appreciate long and intelligent conversations with their partner.

Another great date idea for Capricorn is to score the front row seat at a highly anticipated concert or sporting event, especially in their areas of interest.

Aquarius

Aquarius can easily have fun visiting the nearest quirky museum with weird exhibits. This includes sorcery ingredients for exotic dolls on display. This sign’s curiosity would pique with anything unusual.

Other than that, Aquarius would enjoy vinyl shopping, film festivals, literature festivals, or even conventions where they can have a chat with an obscure artist or creator.

Pisces

Dreamer Pisces likes to imagine a fairy tale love story. They are idealistic and one of the most romantic zodiac signs. Their perfect date should be straight out of a romance novel, preferably by the water. Maybe rent a boat and paddle with them to the nearest lake under the moonlight. Arrange to play romantic music in the background while you’re at it. Take wine with you. All of this is enough to make a Pisces swoon.

Apart from these fun date ideas for this zodiac sign, you can sign up for a baking class or go to a music festival.

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 8, 2022.

There are more events and activities to choose from than in previous years. It’s an exciting time to celebrate these special days.

What do moms really want? Some moms aren’t good at telling us. But in many cases, they don’t want much: maybe a chance to sleep in, a sincere token of appreciation, something handmade. (Lavender sachet, anyone? Here’s a handy guide.)

A few general tips: If you’re going somewhere, plan ahead. If you cook, read the recipe and know your chefs’ abilities. Whatever you do, put your heart into it!

[ Speaking of mothers, author Angela Garbes, in her new book, “Essential Labor: Mothering as Social Change,” argues that mothering is the most important job in the world. We don’t diagree! Read a review of the book. ]

Happy Mother’s Day!

Mother’s Day 2022: Events and Activities

A date is always fun. Go to the zoo or aquarium – or maybe a museum or other attraction you haven’t enjoyed in a while.

If mom loves plants and gardening, head to the annual Mother’s Day plant sale at the Kruckeberg Botanical Garden. It’s a fundraiser for the garden, but also a place where you’ll find special plants. There are also activities for children! Have them play while you browse.

Sometimes a walk in the garden around town and enjoying a few moments among the spring flowers is the perfect way to spend the day, with the family or without. Check out our list of gardens and pick a few to explore.

Want to go to town? One of our favorite places to visit is Pike Place Market. Moms, you are in luck! There is an event called Mom’s Market Day, a weekend full of activities for the whole family and plenty of shopping opportunities for mom.

Maybe this year the whole family would like to have a fun race. Join the Mother’s Day Half Marathon in Kirkland. The race starts and ends at Juanita Beach Park. Run to the finish line and stay picnicking at the park.

There is so much more to do! Check Seattle’s Child Calendar for more Mother’s Day events and family outings.

Mother’s Day 2022: more things to do

Go hiking! Spend time in nature, alone or with family. Fresh air and a bit of exercise can put a lot of things into perspective and are a great way to bond with each other. Try one of these easy spring hikes for all ages and abilities.

Try something new like feeding a kangaroo or an adorable wallaby. The Fall City Kangaroo Ranch will make you feel in love, dove, and cuddly.

How about giving mom a weekend? Sometimes you need a little time for yourself or a weekend to celebrate motherhood with friends. Check out these local destinations that aren’t too far from Seattle. They are also excellent family destinations!

Take the plunge ! Seattle has so many options for setting sail. Check out the Ice Cruise or rent an hour on a peapod from the Center for Wooden Boats. Here is a list of experiences to help you start planning.

Mother’s Day 2022: what to eat?

A popular option is Mother’s Day Brunch. Let someone else cook for you and dine inside or outside the Seattle area. If you’re dating mom, call ahead. Like now! Check out our list of brunch spots in the Seattle area.

Of course, what’s adorable (isn’t it?) is when the kids are cooking. A few years ago, we spoke to some kids with big plans for mom. Not everyone is on their level. I’m not above dropping a glaring clue like, “Here’s how to operate the coffee maker” or “Here’s how I place my order at the cafe’s drive-thru.”

Or send the kids to cooking school just before the big day. PCC offers cooking classes for kids (and mom) at various locations in the Seattle area. Local chefs teach children to make popovers and cookies with jam. Add bacon and eggs and it’s an amazing and easy meal to impress mom.

Or in honor of spring, how about a picnic? We just got some great new picnic ideas from a chef and cookbook author. And here are some of our favorite places to go.

Mother’s Day 2022: Gift ideas

(Note: for your information/inspiration, a roundup of ideas that have landed in our inboxes. This does not imply an endorsement or recommendation: just things to think about!)

Seattle’s Theo Chocolate is offering a limited-edition candy box for Mother’s Day. You can order online or visit their store for this and a variety of other items. It has come to our attention that Gene Juarez Salons & Spas is offering gift cards with an added bonus amount. I’m just saying.

Based in Seattle Tokki wants everyone to know about her Mother’s Day (or anytime) gift sets, including luxury vegan soy wax and coconut candles, specialty foods and teas, of well-being for the spa and… wait… cotton masks!

Don’t forget the flowers! There’s Pike Place Market and there’s downtown Issaquah. They have the sweetest, most beautiful way to honor a mom (or anyone!). From spring through fall, along Front Street in downtown Issaquah, streetlights are adorned with baskets of flowers. For a donation starting at $50, people can hang a basket in honor of a loved one. Hurry! This opportunity ends on April 29.

Who says you have to cram the kids in the car and buy expensive movie tickets? You can skip the cinema lines and set up your own cinema in the comfort of your backyard for an evening the whole family will enjoy. Not only will this fun DIY idea spark some creativity in kids and adults, but it could also be the start of an unforgettable family tradition. Customize your movie experience and make the most of summer with these Ideas for movie nights in the garden.

Coming up with new kid-friendly summer activities can be tough, especially after the first few weeks of summer vacation and the kids start complaining about being bored. Try something new with a movie night in your backyard, which can be as simple or as elaborate as you want. Depending on how much time and money you want to spend, you can have a big 4th of July event where you invite friends and neighbors over, adopt the movie night theme for your kid’s birthday party, or just make it an activity day for everyone. in the family to help assemble, then enjoy the fruits of your labor when the sun goes down.

Ready to throw an award-worthy movie night? We share tips on how to set up a DIY screen and comfy seating arrangements, as well as creative ideas for serving movie theater snacks and summer drinks for kids and adults. Then all you have to do is sit down and select a movie to watch – which admittedly might be the hardest part.

While you can certainly purchase an outdoor cinema screen for your backyard, it’s also easy to set up your own DIY version with items you already have around the house. For this setup, you will need a shower rod, two plant hooks, and a white curtain or sheet. Mount the rod between the hangers and straighten the curtain so that the film is projected without any distortion.

… or buy a portable projection screen

Alternatively, you can buy a portable (and foldable) projection screen for under $100. This one from Getco Tech makes movie night easy and luxurious with a seamless setup process that takes just minutes and a 100-inch screen with a 160-degree viewing angle. No tools are required, and the frame can be folded down to fit in an included carry bag, meaning you can have movie night in your backyard or at a campsite.

Gather your outdoor theater seats and tables

Once you have the basics (a screen and a projector), you can have fun turning your backyard into the outdoor movie theater of your dreams. If you have outdoor chairs or sofas, dust them off and take them out for the season if you haven’t already. Or, splurge on a classic Adirondack chair that will look great in front of your movie screen as well as in your backyard on a regular summer afternoon.

Shop Adirondack Chairs

Mix and match cozy blankets and pillows

Have the kids scavenger hunt around the house collecting blankets, beanbags, area rugs, pillows, and even pool floats suitable for the outdoors. The best part about using the seats you already have is that you don’t have to buy anything extra to create a comfortable space perfect for a movie marathon. If you prefer not to put your best sheets in the grass, you can also get outdoor blankets which will be very useful during picnics in the park and more.

Shop Outdoor Blankets

Hang up movie night decorations

Once you have the general layout of your movie theater seats (and covers) facing the screen, you can figure out where to install string lights, hanging planters, or anything else you want to incorporate for an extra personal touch. If you’re showing a specific movie for a birthday party or holiday, consider decorating your yard to match the theme!

Shop Watermelon Fairy Lights

Prepare a picnic table with snacks

Everyone has their favorite movie snack which they buy at the concession stand before heading to their seat. Whether it’s sour candy or buttery popcorn, you can easily gift those same treats (for less money!) at your backyard movie night. Mix your family’s favorite candy in a bowl or set up a s’more stand with graham crackers, marshmallows and candy bars. Want to dine out before the show? Try making some of these easy picnic recipes.

FELT LETTER BOARD

Incorporate individual portable concession stands

Whether you have a small crowd gathered for movie night in your backyard, or just want to make it easy for you and the kids to enjoy your snacks and drinks while watching the movie, having a “concession stand” portable (aka a food tray with legs) is a smart hack for your outdoor cinema setup. Use the same trays you would use for breakfast in bed, or find an affordable set on Amazon if you don’t already have one.

Buy Foldable Bamboo Tray Tables

Set up a self-service popcorn stand

Here’s another adorable idea for getting creative with materials you probably already have. To add this easy DIY snack holder to your movie mix, simply pin paper popcorn bags to a trellis. Ta-da! Self-serve snacks that won’t disturb others watching the movie.

Shop Popcorn Bags

Distribute chocolate bar tickets

While admission to your backyard movie night is free, you’ll want to make sure all the kids have one of those candy bar “tickets” for the after-party. We’ve done the work for you by creating a free template, so all you have to do is print, cut, paste and enjoy.

Get the Movie night ticket printable template.

Just like everyone has their favorite snack for movie night, most of us also have a favorite drink to sip on throughout the movie. Enhance the family’s soda experience with these adorable “sippy” cups that even kids and older adults will love. Attach chalkboard labels to mason jars and personalize them with names to avoid confusion. You can also have everyone decorate their own lids as an afternoon activity that ensures no two cups look alike.

Shop chalkboard labels and liquid chalk markers

While you can of course have regular paper straws available, why not offer these alternatives to old straws as well? Go the extra mile and cut off the tips of the licorice to create sweet sips.

Buy Twizzlers

Serving Delicatessen for Adults

If your family’s birthday treat is always cupcakes, then they’ll love this innovative take on the traditional movie snack. Instead of pouring cupcake batter into molds, form gooey balls of unsalted butter, mini marshmallows and plain popcorn, then drizzle with melted chocolate and top with sprinkles. Yum!

Get the Recipe for “Cupcakes” with popcorn.

Mix signature summer drinks

It’s always a good idea to have liquid refreshments nearby for any summer activity, even if the one in question is more likely to happen after the sun goes down. Prepare homemade lemonade, simple cucumber water or a special non-alcoholic concoction and sip back and enjoy.

You can even create signature cocktails and mocktails based on the movie of your choice and display a themed menu on a letter board or mini marquee. Need ideas? To mix together Frozen summer granita or serve a BruNo-Sugar lemonade from We Don’t Talk About.
