Southwest District Senior Games return for 2022

Lake Charles, LA (KPLC) – Let the games begin! The 2022 Louisiana Southwest District Senior Games kicked off Friday morning at the McNeese Recreational Sports Complex.

This is the first year the games have resumed since the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown in 2020. Men and women aged 50 and over from across the region will compete in different sporting events, starting March 25 with the bean bag baseball.

“Oh what? We’ve been preparing for this all my life, I love it,” said athlete David Trahan. “I played baseball for nine years as a kid and I love playing baseball . The best thing is to participate with other people.

Trahan competes in a beanbag baseball competition with the team at the Senior Citizen Center in Moss Bluff. This is his first year competing in the senior games.

“We want to win the victory. We want to be victorious today,” Trahan said. “We have been victorious all our lives and we are not going to give up.”

In addition to bean bag baseball, games include other events such as backyard bait toss, shuffleboard, wash court, pool, bolo golf, bowling, putt-putt, dominoes, golf, horseshoes, precision throwing, swimming, table tennis and spelling.

The senior matches will last until April 11.
