Botanical gardens light up after dark for the holidays

BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) – The Buffalo and Erie County Botanic Gardens are closing the holiday season with their special Gardens After Dark exhibit.

The Magic Poinsettias event is lit in holiday colors and the greenhouses are adorned with decorations.

There are 12 different greenhouses to explore, including one for children set up by the Western New York Garden Railway Society.

The Gardens After Dark experience takes place three times a year, but the holiday experience is unique.

Marketing director Shaunna Rospierski said it was fun for families or a night out.

“During the day you see the beautiful colors and the lights and things like that, the natural light that comes on the plants, but being here at night you get a whole different perspective of how these plants look when lit by a soft lighting and some different effects that we created, so it’s a really cool experience, ”she said.

Tickets are sold online and range from $ 7 for children to $ 14 for adults.

Tickets are timed to keep traffic flowing, but customers are welcome to stay as long as they wish.

Thursday is the last day to discover the Magic Poinsettias, it takes place between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.

The next Gardens after Dark will take place from mid-January to mid-March. It’s called Enchanted Winter Escape and tickets are on sale now.

They will also bring back the Thursday night date night which includes wine, beer and cheese as well as the nightly perspective of the gardens.
