Family members pay tribute to man killed in Miami Gardens hit and run as police continue to search for driver

MIAMI GARDENS, Florida – Authorities continue to search for the driver who struck and killed a man in Miami Gardens.

The family of this victim, Kerry McCutchen, 57, paid tribute to him on Tuesday evening.

“He was very affectionate,” said Quatasha Davis, McCutchen’s niece. “He was very genuine, he was gentle, and of course, full of life.”

McCutchen had no children but many nieces and nephews who loved him like a father.

That’s why they called him Uncle Papa.

“He’s like your daddy but you know he’s your uncle too,” Davis said.

Early Friday morning, McCutchen was driving home on 32nd Avenue and as he was crossing Northwest 183rd Street, a car struck him.

The driver did not stop, leaving McCutchen for dead.

“All I see is my uncle lying there helpless,” Davis said. “It hurts. It’s devastating Our family just wants justice and just closure. Who did it?”

Authorities found surveillance footage of the car they said was involved. They are looking for a 2016 Mercedes Benz C Class with tinted windows.

The car should have some damage to the front on the driver’s side and the front magnifier is missing on the bumper area.

The black plastic housing of the driver’s side wheel arch is also missing.

“He leads the prayer. And that’s like who’s going to lead the prayer now? Davis said. “It’s like the glue of our family is gone.”

The family remains hopeful that the person responsible will be arrested.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
