Want to participate in a genealogy program? The safest approach during this pandemic is to view the programs through a Zoom meeting or through Facebook.

The Springfield-based Ozarks Genealogical Society offers both types of approaches to its programs. Before each program, OGS sends an email to members with a link to the Zoom meeting. Non-members can watch each program through the company’s Facebook page at https://facebook.com/ozarksgs. No registration necessary.

The next program is titled “Pioneers of Great Appalachia: Researching the Draper Manuscript Collection”. This program will take place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 7. Daniel Lillienkamp, ​​JD, will lead the discussion on indexes and transcriptions. It will present three case studies and describe strategies for solving them using the collection.

From 10 am to 11 am on Wednesday June 16, the company will be offering a “Looking Beyond the Obvious” program. Alan Barasch will lead the program and discuss working techniques with case studies containing little known or misinformation.

Ann Raymont will be leading the Do-It-Yourself Genealogy Case Studies program from 7 to 8 pm on Monday July 5th.

From 10 am to 11 am on Wednesday, July 21, Rita Wallace will lead the “Using Online Records for Family Tracing” program. She will explain how to navigate the website and find pictures of county registers.

On Monday August 2, Patti Lee Hobbs will lead the “Courthouse” program. She will discuss the types of documents found in a courthouse and how they can be useful in your search. The program will run from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Taylor Baldwin presents the program from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 18. Participants will learn how to use Ancestry.
