The Southern Arizona Community Food Bank has completed a year-long renovation project at its facility.

The project, which cost around $ 4 million and was funded by private donations, included expanding the storage areas for fresh and frozen food, improving parking and traffic, and creating a dedicated space for volunteer work and Training.

This was the building’s first major renovation, 3003 S. Country Club Road, which has housed the food bank for over 25 years. The building was previously a furniture warehouse.

“We are very grateful to the community and to donors, large and small, who have enabled us to take this step forward,” said CEO Michael McDonald. “We have been able to make many improvements, from providing a temperature-controlled environment for the millions of pounds of product that enter our building, to transforming our lobby and volunteer space into an environment more welcoming and hospitable.

The food bank announced the project last year, just before the start of the pandemic. Plans have been put on hold due to emergency food demand caused by the pandemic.

When the food bank transferred its drive-thru food distribution to the Kino sports complex last May, work crews were able to begin work on renovations to the building and outdoor space.

Drive-thru distributions returned to facilities in January, a change made possible by the renovated parking and improved traffic flow, officials said.
